Join us at 7pm for an evening of readings together with this year's announcment of the winner of the Virginia Fiction Prize. We'll be joined by past winner Dipika Mukherjee reading from her thought-provoking novel Shambala Junction, about adoption racketeering in India, as well as local author Ewa Dodd, whose debut novel The Walls Came Down has just been published and has been shortlisted for this year's prize. Spanning the past 30 years, Dodd's poignant historical novel begins in 1980s Communist Poland when a young boy goes missing during a workers' strike, unravelling a chain of events which will touch people across decades and continents. The Walls Came Down traces the changes in Warsaw over the past few decades and examines how technological developments and the rise of social media are exploited in missing persons cases. 
 
The biennial Virginia Fiction Prize, named for Virginia Woolf (who wrote her first novel while living in Richmond,) is sponsored by Twickenham-based arts organisation Aurora Metro and was launched in 2009 to find new women fiction writers in English from around the world.
