Barry Levinson's screen-directing debut, and the first of his four "Baltimore Films" set in his hometown during the 1940s, 1950s, and 1960s (followed by Tin Men, Avalon, and Liberty Heights.) Starring Steve Guttenberg, Mickey Rourke and Ellen Barkin. Rites-of-passage drama about a circle of young male friends who reunite for a wedding. The Boston Globe said it was 'an extremely clever, slick male fantasy' and the Associated Press said: 'Diner is an absolute gem of a movie. Evocations of the American 1950 s have been filmed before, but none has provided more fidelity and warm good humour.' A classic evocation of lad love.
